What We Do

Climate action works best when it’s connected. Groundswell powers the movement driving big, systemic wins across the country.

We don’t fund silver bullets. We fund ecosystems – the diverse, interconnected web of people and organisations shifting systems, influencing power, and pushing for bold climate solutions.

From grassroots groups defending Country to policy experts shaping our energy future, we back the whole network. Because real change doesn’t happen in silos – it happens in sync.

Since 2020, the Groundswell community has raised and distributed over $5 million – helping campaigns win, communities rise, and momentum grow for the kind of climate action this moment demands.

Some of the climate wins the Groundswell community have made possible lately…

Climate Integrity took a bold stand for truth during the 2025 election, exposing one of the most deceptive campaigns. They reported ‘Australians for Natural Gas’ — a front group led by a gas exec with Liberal Party ties — to the ACCC for potential misleading conduct. Disguised as grassroots, the group ran ads seen 1.1 million times, promoting gas as “clean” and undermining renewables. By calling it out, Climate Integrity is helping protect our democracy from fossil fuel spin.

Groundswell funding enabled AAP to embed a dedicated climate correspondent ahead of the election, delivering quality, independent reporting to 300+ regional outlets. In the lead up to voting day, 35 original stories ran in over 80 publications. By putting climate issues front and centre in communities often overlooked in national conversations, this work is helping to inform and empower people where it matters most.

After years of relentless advocacy, Solar Citizens helped win a 30% federal rebate on home batteries. Their ‘Defend and Extend’ election campaign protected 4 million solar households, debunked nuclear myths, and positioned batteries as the next big step. Partnering with other climate groups, they helped deliver a policy set to save households up to $1,100 a year and unlock over a million new batteries by 2030 — a critical boost to Australia’s clean energy future.

Seed Mob made sure First Nations voices were front and centre at the 2025 election. They delivered vital voting education, supported enrolment in remote communities, and raised awareness about polling station access so no one was excluded. Their First Nations justice scorecards clearly showed where the major parties stood on protecting Country and through virtual events and community outreach, they elevated the voices of First Nations people – from electoral roll to ballot box.

With 12.5 million parents making up two-thirds of voters, Parents for Climate proved this bloc is a growing political force. Their #VoteLikeAParent campaign linked climate to cost-of-living relief, reached millions via TV, cinema and digital ads, and secured pledges from 300 candidates. On the ground, they ran 68 events, mobilised 1,100+ parent volunteers, and launched new groups from Bathurst to Margaret River. And they’re not just building power — they’re winning: after sustained pressure, EnergyAustralia was forced to apologise to 400,000 customers and settle greenwashing claims.

For the first time, Gen Z and Millennials made up 47% of voters at the 2025 election — Australia’s biggest voting bloc. AYCC seized the moment: training volunteers for thousands of climate conversations, enrolling first-time voters, and engaging candidates across the country. They co-hosted a youth forum with 8 partner orgs, flooded 4 key electorates with posters, and ran targeted digital ads breaking down climate policies. At pre-poll booths in 27 electorates, they handed out 10,000 Climate Scorecards — putting climate justice front and centre for a new generation of voters.
