What is the MGC?

The Major Giving Circle brings together individuals and families who want their philanthropy to create strategic, long-term climate impact.

Now in its third year, the MGC is becoming a significant source of flexible funding for Australia's climate movement. In 2025, 22 members contributed $1.86 million, helping strengthen the organisations shaping Australia's climate future, while also enabling rapid-response funding as new opportunities emerged.

The MGC backs organisations working to shift policy, build public support for climate action, strengthen community leadership, advance First Nations-led solutions and hold decision-makers to account.

More than a funding collective, the MGC helps remove the uncertainty that can come with climate giving. Members benefit from expert insight, shared learning and a thoughtful collective process that makes giving with confidence easier.

Why now?

Climate change demands bold philanthropy. Yet many people with the capacity to give don't know where to start. The landscape is complex, opportunities can be difficult to assess, and the organisations creating the greatest impact often have the least visibility.

At the same time, many of the biggest opportunities to accelerate climate progress depend on flexible funding that can move quickly and back advocacy, organising and long-term systems change.

The Major Giving Circle exists to help meet that need. By pooling significant contributions, members provide the confidence and stability that high-impact organisations need to seize opportunities, respond to challenges and create lasting change.
