Fund change

Grants are delivered to organisations driving high impact climate action across Australia.

The solutions exist. The challenge is making them happen.

We already know what Australia needs to build a safer climate future. But solutions don’t become reality on their own.

That’s the role of climate advocacy. It builds public support, creates political pressure and helps turn good ideas into real-world change.

Groundswell backs the organisations doing that work, giving them the resources to seize opportunities, shift decisions and turn momentum into lasting change

What we fund

How we fund change

Climate action succeeds when different forces move together. We back a mix of organisations and strategies working at different pressure points, because change in one area strengthens and unlocks change in another.

The thinking behind every grant

We look for where funding can make a real difference

We assess the strength of an organisation’s strategy, the opportunity in front of them, their ability to deliver and the impact our funding could make. It’s not simply asking ‘is this good work?’ It’s asking why this, why now and why this organisation.

We bring expertise and community judgement together

Applications are reviewed by a rotating committee of Groundswell givers, supported by experienced advisors, including First Nations leaders. The shortlist then goes to all Groundswell givers for a vote. This gives our community a meaningful role in deciding where funding goes and a deeper understanding of climate advocacy along the way.

We give organisations room to respond

Wherever possible, we provide flexible, untied funding so organisations can use it where it’s most needed. Climate advocacy moves quickly – political opportunities open and close and strategies shift as new opportunities emerge. Flexible funding lets organisations respond to what’s actually happening rather than being locked into a plan written months earlier.
