Arid Lands Environment Centre (ALEC) is Central Australia’s peak environmental organisation, working to protect the region’s desert landscapes, water, biodiversity and communities.
This Groundswell grant supported the Arid Lands Environment Centre to strengthen community-led climate and conservation work across Central Australia. The funding helped support campaigns against fracking in the Beetaloo Basin, protect water and biodiversity, back Traditional Owners and local community groups, and build public pressure for stronger environmental policy ahead of the 2024 NT election. The work connected climate action with the protection of arid lands, water, culture and sustainable regional communities.

Wherever we are in this country, we are on Country.
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Traditional Custodians, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
We honour their enduring care for Country and the First Nations leadership our climate future depends on.
