Black Duck Foods is an Aboriginal-owned and led native foods enterprise on Yuin Country. It is the first and only organisation in Australia currently investing in the development of a native grain industry grounded in traditional Indigenous agriculture and regenerative farming practices. Their work is driven by two principles: native plants managed traditionally, and heal Country and revive culture.
This grant supported Black Duck Foods to expand its work reviving native grain and tuber cultivation on Yuin Country. The project trialled cultural burning, thinning and regenerative farming techniques to restore native grasses, established healthy tuber gardens using traditional seasonal practices, and gathered data to strengthen climate-resilient farming methods. The grant also supported on-Country workshops with Elders, First Nations participants and land management practitioners, helping share knowledge and build a stronger future for Indigenous-led native food systems.
