Currie Country Social Change Aboriginal Corporation (CCSCAC) is dedicated to preserving and stewarding the precious lands, seas and waters of Bundjalung Country in northern NSW. With Groundswell’s support, CCSCAC set out to restore and revitalise two significant fish trap sites at Cabarita and Fingal Head.
This grant supported Currie Country Social Change Aboriginal Corporation to protect and revitalise culturally significant water places on Bundjalung Country. When development pressures limited the planned restoration of fish trap sites at Cabarita and Fingal Head, the project shifted towards cultural education, water sovereignty and intergenerational knowledge-sharing. This work helped seed Water Wommin, a grandmother-led initiative mapping significant water sites, reviving water lore and law, and creating opportunities for girls and young people to learn on Country, while also supporting longer-term efforts to protect wetlands and sacred sites.
