Doctors for the Environment Australia is the leading medical voice on health and climate. They work with communities and health professionals to respond to the health effects of climate change through practical support, education, and by encouraging strong government action to reduce pollution.
This grant supported Doctors for the Environment Australia to use trusted health voices to build public support for stronger climate action ahead of the 2022 federal election. The funding helped doctors and medical students campaign across five priority electorates, hold candidate forums, engage local communities and generate sustained media coverage on the health impacts of climate change. The campaign reached mainstream and more cautious audiences, strengthened relationships with political candidates and helped put climate and health higher on the public and political agenda.
This grant supported Doctors for the Environment Australia to build public and political support for stronger climate action by framing climate change as a health issue. The funding helped train and mobilise doctors to engage their communities, speak through the media and advocate directly with MPs in key electorates. The campaign connected climate policy with health, inequality and post-COVID recovery, using trusted medical voices to broaden support for renewable energy, stronger emissions targets and a national climate and health strategy.
