Future Ancestors Program
The Future Ancestors Program is a grassroots leadership initiative empowering Pasifika youth in Queensland to take on civic leadership roles and participate in high-level decision-making. By equipping young people with practical tools, cultural knowledge, and advocacy skills, the program ensures that the voices of Pasifika communities resonate in spaces that shape their future and that of the Pacific Islands.
This Groundswell grant supported the Future Ancestors Program to expand leadership opportunities for Pasifika young people in Queensland. The funding helped more participants access civic leadership training, cultural learning, mentorship and practical advocacy skills, while strengthening pathways into decision-making spaces that shape their communities and the Pacific. The program also deepened intergenerational learning with Pasifika and Indigenous Elders and supported the long-term growth of a culturally grounded model for youth leadership.
