Indigenous Peoples' Organisation

The Indigenous Peoples Organisation Australia (IPOA) is a national coalition of over 300 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, community groups and individuals working to advance Indigenous rights in Australia and globally. With Groundswell’s support in 2022, IPOA strengthened Indigenous climate leadership and helped prepare a large delegation for COP27 in Egypt, ensuring Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Pacific voices were represented in global climate negotiations.

Groundswell Grants
2022
$
40000

This grant supported the Indigenous Peoples Organisation Australia to strengthen Indigenous participation and leadership in global climate negotiations ahead of COP27. The funding helped deliver an eight-part training series, translated for Pacific participants, and supported briefings that brought Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Pacific leaders together to build knowledge and shared strategy. It also helped coordinate Indigenous delegates to attend COP27, where they advocated for rights-based climate action, stronger recognition of Indigenous leadership and greater support for frontline communities.
