Groundswell Grants
2024
$
40000

This Groundswell grant supported Lock the Gate Alliance to strengthen community opposition to new coal mine expansions in New South Wales. The funding helped mobilise local supporters, bring communities into direct contact with decision-makers, commission expert analysis and legal advice, and build public pressure around projects including the Hunter Valley Operations Continuation proposal. The work aimed to stop further coal expansion, strengthen climate constraints in planning decisions and support a community-led transition away from fossil fuels.

2020
$
40000

This Groundswell grant supported Lock the Gate Alliance to strengthen grassroots opposition to new coal and gas projects and push for a renewables-led recovery after COVID-19. The funding helped coordinate communities across NSW, Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, support major campaigns including opposition to the Narrabri Gas Project, and build pressure for stronger protections for land, water and communities. The work brought together farmers, Traditional Owners, conservationists and local groups to challenge fossil fuel expansion and advocate for cleaner economic alternatives.
