Nēwara is a grassroots, Anaiwan-led non-profit Aboriginal organisation based on Anaiwan Country (Armidale, NSW). Since its founding in 2016 as the Anaiwan Language Revival Program, Nēwara has worked to reverse the local impacts of colonisation through cultural revitalisation, land restoration and community empowerment.
This grant supported Nēwara Aboriginal Corporation to lay the groundwork for Aboriginal-led biodiversity conservation and economic participation on Anaiwan Country. At Nyambinga Kyuna, a 600-acre bush block owned by Anaiwan people, the project began the vegetation assessment and mapping needed for biodiversity credit registration, while strengthening the emerging Nyambinga Kyuna Ranger Program. The work also built relationships with land management, fire and research partners, helping create a model for caring for Country that supports cultural connection, ecological restoration and greater community benefit from the renewable energy transition.
