A First Nations-owned renewable energy project in Borroloola NT is now moving into construction after years of community-led development.
This Groundswell grant supported Ngardara Cooperative as its First Nations-owned renewable energy project in Borroloola moved into construction. The funding helped strengthen the governance, systems and local workforce development needed to make community ownership durable, while preparing local people to participate in and benefit from the project. The work is also helping build a model for First Nations-led renewable energy that can be adapted and replicated in other communities.

Ngardara Cooperative secured $11 million in federal funding for First Nations-led renewable energy projects in remote communities. The investment will expand access to clean, reliable power while putting First Nations communities in the driver’s seat, shaping how energy is generated, owned and used on Country.
