This extraordinary documentary follows Torres Strait Islander Traditional Owners Uncle Pabai Pabai and Uncle Paul Kabai as they take the Australian Government to court over its failure to protect their island homes from climate change. Made in close collaboration with Saibai and Boigu communities, Testimony is a powerful story of culture, courage and the fight to protect Country for future generations.
Groundswell's grant will fund the final stage of filming during December's king tides, capturing both the escalating impacts of climate change and a deeply significant new cultural dance imagining a future in which the islands are submerged. The completed film will underpin an impact campaign designed to bring Torres Strait Islander voices and experiences to decision-makers, influence climate justice discussions locally and internationally, and inspire greater action.
