Wilya Janta is an Aboriginal-led not-for-profit cultural consultancy based in Tennant Creek, founded on long-standing relationships of trust between its Warumungu and non-Indigenous founders. The organisation seeks to reinvent the remote housing design and construction process by putting community at the centre – ensuring homes are culturally appropriate, climate resilient and liveable.
This grant supported Wilya Janta to share the story of its pilot remote housing project through a series of animations designed for remote communities. The work sat alongside the co-design and construction of two homes in Tennant Creek, developed with local Warumungu leadership and a strong network of design and research partners. Together, the project is helping demonstrate a more culturally appropriate, climate-responsive model of remote housing – one that puts community knowledge, liveability and long-term wellbeing at the centre.
