Wirranyah-Gateebil Gurrnung Aboriginal Corporation is an Indigenous-led organisation dedicated to reviving Yugara culture through language, song, dance and caring for Country. Based in the Lockyer Valley, Gateebil Gurrnung is governed by a board of Gateebil clan members and oversees several cultural and land management initiatives, including Wirrinyah Conservation Services, Yugara Dancers and the Yugara Language Program.
This grant supported Wirranyah-Gateebil Gurrnung Aboriginal Corporation to revive cultural burning practices across Yugara Country and build the skills of new cultural fire practitioners. Through workshops and camps, the organisation strengthened traditional land management knowledge, expanded revegetation and weed management work, and began developing a rotational cultural burn calendar across the region. The funding also supported broader cultural renewal, including language, song and dance programs that reconnect young Yugara people with Country and identity.
