What do Tomorrow Movement do?

Tomorrow Movement organises young people to build public and political support to win transformative policies to improve the lives of thousands of people while solving the climate crisis. By taking escalating actions we can make ambitious solutions winnable and prompt historic government investment in climate justice solutions.

Why is this work important?

This coming year is the moment to ramp up on hopeful, positive campaigns for climate justice solutions in Australia. Across the globe, countries have committed to massive investments in climate solutions unseen before- including the Green Deal in the EU, and the Inflation Reduction Act in the US which allocated over $200 billion to climate solutions.

In the next 12 months, there is a huge opportunity for the Labor government to commit to building a climate transformation on a similar scale. We know there is so much work to do solving the climate crisis, transforming every industry, and we need the government to put us to work. With the cost of living crisis dominating headlines and impacting people’s lives, now is the moment to campaign for climate solutions that explicitly tie climate action to improving everyone’s quality of life.

Tomorrow Movement has been working in collaboration with unions, clean industry and climate justice organisations on a cross-movement campaign to win a historic climate justice solutions package in Australia. They will spend the next few years building power leading up to the next federal election. They could win record investment in building the climate solutions needed to address the scale of transformation climate change requires.

Winning a huge climate justice policy package would be the first step to catalyse even bigger economic transformations, to transform every industry to decarbonise, and prepare for a climate-changed future, while improving the lives of everyday people. We could shift the narrative and expand the imagination of the government to adopt ambitious policies like a climate jobs guarantee into the next decade.

How is Groundswell supporting this work?

Tomorrow Movement’s goal is to build public support for ambitious climate solutions, including a climate-jobs guarantee. They will pressure the federal government to adopt climate justice solutions that act at the speed and scale needed to address the dual economic and climate crises. This groundwork will make transformative climate justice solutions a defining issue leading up to, and beyond the next Federal election.

With Groundswell’s support, we will do the following:

  • Lead campaigns to build public support to win an ambitious climate solutions plan grounded in justice

  • We will build public and political support for a policy agenda that matches the scale of the climate, jobs and housing crisis and make it a defining issue at the next federal election. This also means campaigning on related issues, including the cost of living crisis. This includes:

    • Organising hundreds of young people to run strategic mobilisations targeting Labor in key political moments including Labor National Conference and the Federal Budget. Actions garner media attention in 8+ publications by the end of 2024.

    • Running on-the-ground campaigns in key electorates to build public support for ambitious climate justice solutions, and put pressure on local MPs. 15+ Parliamentarians meet with us before the end of 2024, and 3-5 Parliamentarians are publicly demonstrating support for our demands

    • Working with a coalition of the climate movement, union movement and racial justice campaigners on a cross-movement campaign for a big climate justice solutions package. Tomorrow Movement is the youth edge of this collaboration, raising the ambition of our demands, and providing on-the-ground, youth-led campaigns to support this package.
